Pearl Media is proud to have received top honors for their Chevy Sonic “World’s Largest Claw Game” 3D building projection video.
In support of Chevy’s “Let’s Do This” campaign for the all new Chevy Sonic, Pearl Media, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners and Starcom teamed up to transform the arcade-style, prize-grabbing claw game into a massive 3D immersive experience. On December 17, 2011 Pearl Media deployed the first-ever interactive 3D projection, which allowed consumers to navigate a giant 3D claw using a human-size joy stick set up on the street in front of Hollywood’s iconic Roosevelt Hotel – on which the claw game and Chevy Sonic 3D storyline was projected. Leveraging leading edge technology with the use of projectors, state of the art 3D technology, lighting, sound, shadows and animation mapped to the contours of the Roosevelt, the event drew thousands of consumers. All production elements including sound, lighting, staging and permitting was handled by Pearl Media and Pearl Media Productions.
“With Pearl’s innovative approach to experiential advertising and the Sonic’s willingness to try ‘firsts,’ we at Chevy wanted to take the partnership to groundbreaking territory. So we added the real time experiential claw game piece to it,” said Kevin Mayer, Chevrolet’s Director of Advertising & Promotion.
“Sonic is up for any challenge,” Mayer continued, “and Pearl’s claw game pushed the sonic into a new gaming realm that combined old school fun with cutting edge technology and connected the Sonic with fun-seeking consumers.”
“This Platinum Event Technology Award is what happens when great agencies like Goodby and Starcom collaborate with us on a core idea,” said Joe DePreta, Chief Marketing Officer at Pearl Media. “In the final analysis, it’s about engaging the consumer in an experience that will create lasting impressions for the brand. Interactivity, 3D projection and a differentiating idea is a powerful combination for any brand.”
Several hundred people played the World’s Largest Claw Game with more than 100 walking away with prizes including a dream vacation valued at $4,000, a trip to the famed SXSW Music Festival, a Burton Snowboard, mountain bikes and more. One lucky winner walked away with the grand prize – a brand new 2012 Chevy Sonic.
