DID YOU KNOW?!
Approximately 145 million Valentine’s Day cards are sold annually. The first American Valentine card is credited to Esther Howland, who was inspired after receiving one herself from England. At the time, Valentine cards were imported from Europe and were too expensive for many Americans. Determined to create a more affordable alternative, Howland convinced her father to order supplies and crafted a dozen samples, which her brother sold on his sales trip. In 1850, her first advertisement appeared in the newspaper, Worcester Spy, and her designs quickly gained nationwide recognition. Known as "The Mother of the American Valentine," she popularized intricate “lift-up” cards featuring layered lace, ribbons, and interactive elements that transformed the Valentine industry.
